This research was conducted based on the phenomenon of the problem of lack of attention to the use of medical record archives as primary information for writing health history. Medical record archives are in reality widely used for medical research purposes or are considered medical data inventories without much in-depth utilization. However, medical record archives can actually be utilized as sources for writing health history. Therefore, this study aims to explore the use of medical record archives in the past, both in Indonesia and also using other countries, namely China and Egypt as a model. The goal is to determine the extent of the use of medical record archives within the scope of historical studies. This research uses a historical literature study method with a social science approach. The findings of this study indicate that the use of medical record archives in the field of history can serve two purposes: education and new research findings. The contribution of this research to the future is to provide knowledge about the history of medical record archive use in Indonesia, Egypt, and China.
