Abstract

Abstract

Islamic economic development is more than mere physical expansion since it gives more emphasis to spiritual values, ethical leadership, and social justice. Underpinned by maqasid al-syariah epistemology, Islamic economic development works to protect and advance five basic goals: religion (din), life (nafs), intellect ('aql), lineage (nasl), and wealth (mal). This study explores how Islamic epistemological pillars shape development discourse and the way that values inherent in the maqasid paradigm can be translated into policy-relevant solutions for public policy. Employing a qualitative approach of literature review and conceptual analysis, the study looks into the interlink between normative Islamic theory and policy design during the contemporary age. The study formulates a model of policy in terms of justice ('adl), equitable share, and common good (maslahah). The study leans in the direction of paradigm shift from growth-centric models to a more ethical, holistic, and sustainable model in line with Islamic teachings. The study contributes to the development of Islamic economic epistemology theory and offers a foundation for constructing public policy that is Shariah-compliant and responsive to the various developmental needs of Muslim-majority societies.
