Abstract

The development of the digital economy through social media has given rise to the phenomenon of family influencers, where family life is commodified and monetized as digital content. In this practice, children under the age of 18, as defined by Indonesian Child Protection Law and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), are frequently involved as part of content production, either as visual subjects or as the central narrative. Such involvement raises legal concerns because children occupy a vulnerable position and lack the capacity to fully understand the social, economic, and legal consequences of digital exposure. This study aims to analyze the practice of family influencers as a potential form of child victimization from the perspectives of child protection law, international child protection standards, and victimology. This research employs a normative legal method using statutory, conceptual, and victimological approaches. The findings indicate that children's involvement in such practices may lead to structural victimization through the commodification of identity, violations of privacy, and the creation of permanent digital footprints without children's free and informed consent and without due consideration of their best interests. The current child protection framework in Indonesia has not comprehensively regulated this practice. Therefore, adaptive legal reform is required through the establishment of specific regulations governing the limits of children's involvement in monetized digital content, mechanisms to safeguard children's economic rights arising from such activities, and the recognition of children's rights to control and request the removal of their digital footprints.
