Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Articles can be submitted in English or Indonesian. Manuscripts submitted that do not match the Manilkara journal template will be returned to the author for correction. The articles should be an original research findings that are in accordance with the focus and scope of the Journal and has novelty. Journal of Manilkara does not accept articles that have been published or submitted to other journals. If the submitted article consists of several authors, all co-authors will be notified. Every article that is sent will be given a specific number for correspondence purpose. Articles that have been reviewed will be sent to the author with comments and publication decision through the OJS system. Authors must also ensure that the articles have less than 20% similarity score based on Turnitin, PlagScan, or OUoriginal apps. If in the future it is known that the article has been published in another journal, the article will be annulled and the author will be blacklisted. If the article is published in Indonesian, the title and abstract should use 2 (two) languages, namely Indonesian and English.

Articles to be published in the Manilkara Journal follow the writing requirements with the following main structure.

Title (Indonesian-English)

The title must be short, specific, and informative, written in Indonesian and English with a maximum of 20 words. The title is written in capital letters at the top center of the paragraph, Arial font, bold, size 14 pt. Under the title, write the name of the author without a title (12 pt size) and affiliated institution (11 pt size), and be numbered if there is more than one affiliated institution. Correspondence authors are starred and provided with an e-mail address. The correspondent author is the person in charge of the article.

Abstract (Indonesian-English)

This template is intended to assist you in formatting your manuscript. All components of your article—title, abstract, keywords, subheadings, and body text—have been adapted to align with the house style of Manilkara journal. The abstract should be written in English, using Arial font, 10 pt, italicized, and must not exceed 300 words. It should be clear, concise, and descriptive, offering a brief overview of the research gap, the relevance of the study, the research methods employed, and a summary of the key findings. The abstract should conclude with a brief statement that underscores the importance of the research as a concluding remark (Arial, 10 pt).

Keywords: word 1, word 2, word 3, etc. [3-5 keywords, Arial, 10 pt, italicized]

INTRODUCTION

The article should be typed using Arial font, 10-point, with 1.15 line spacing and a single-column format on A4 paper. The margins should be set as follows: 2.54 cm for the left, top, right, and bottom. The total word count of the article should be between 3,000 and 5,000 words. Each page should be numbered consecutively, starting from the title page to the last page. The article must be written in accordance with the formal scientific writing standards, following the guidelines of the Indonesian General Guidelines for Spelling (PUEBI).
The Introduction provides the background and justification for the research. This section includes a review of relevant literature related to the research topic and synthesizes current theoretical and practical knowledge. It strengthens the data and information while highlighting the originality of the ideas by identifying research gaps from previous studies or the novelty of the research. The introduction clearly presents the current state of the art. The research objectives are explicitly stated in the final paragraph, along with a brief description of the approach employed to address the problem.

RESEARCH METHODS

The research methods should be described in paragraph form. This section explains the step-by-step process carried out to achieve the research objectives. It includes data collection techniques such as surveys, observations, interviews, or questionnaires, indicating the operationalization of the chosen method, sampling criteria, target population, and respondents. A detailed explanation of any statistical methods or data analysis techniques used should also be provided.
Details of commonly used equipment do not need to include brand names or model numbers, unless such specifics are essential to the outcome of the research. Materials used should be described in detail, including their source, strain or clone number, and other relevant information. Equipment and materials should be described alongside the research procedures. The experimental design and its approach must be explained in detail. If necessary, a figure or map showing the data collection site or sampling points may be included. [Arial, 10 pt]

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The results and discussion may be presented in the same or separate subsections as needed. The discussion should be clearly and concisely narrated, focusing on the research findings supported by adequate data. Results should be presented in the form of tables or figures/graphs, with a maximum of six (6) tables or figures. Research findings should not only consist of data interpretation or analysis, but should also be linked to real conditions and facts at the research site. The discussion should explain the phenomena related to the development of the research focus using scientifically sound and accountable justifications—not merely descriptive statements. Authors are encouraged to elaborate and provide thoughtful interpretation, especially by offering feedback on the concepts and methods used, and by explaining differences between their findings and previous studies. SUBHEADING

The full scientific name of a species must be written out completely the first time it appears in the text, following international nomenclature codes. Foreign terms or non-Indonesian/English words should be written in italic. Do not add any elements to the journal template, including headers or footnotes. [Arial, 10 pt].

SUB-SUBHEADING

There is no limit to the number of subheadings and sub-subheadings. Use them as needed to support the clarity and structure of the manuscript. [Arial, 10 pt].

TABLES AND FIGURES

Tables should be numbered consecutively according to their appearance in the text. Each table must have a concise and clear title placed at the top of the table, aligned to the left, in Arial, 10 pt. The content of the table should be written in Arial, 10 pt, single-spaced (see table example), with the table positioned in the center. Any notes or symbols in the table (if applicable) should be placed at the bottom of the table. The source of the table should be written in Arial, 10 pt, and placed below the table, aligned to the left margin of the table.

CONCLUSION

The conclusion provides a brief summary that addresses the research topic and suggests potential future research directions or new research questions. It should not repeat or explain the findings already discussed in the results and discussion section, but instead highlight the new contributions that the study makes to the field of biology. The conclusion should be written as a paragraph. [Arial, 10 pt].

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Acknowledgements should be brief and directed only to those who are deserving, such as funding sponsors, contributors of research materials, research facilities, and sources of non-commercially available materials. If the research is supported by a grant, the contract number should also be included. [Arial, 10 pt].

REFERENCES

All references cited in the manuscript must be included in the references list. The references should be arranged alphabetically by the author’s last name. General guidelines include: the references should be written with single spacing, using Arial font, size 10 pt. If a book or article title spans more than one line, the second and subsequent lines should be indented by 1 cm. The references must be relevant to the article topic, with a minimum of 20 references. At least 85% of the references should be from scientific journals, and the sources should be the most recent (within the last 10 years).

The reference style for the Manilkara journal follows the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition guidelines (http://www.apastyle.org/pubmanual.html). It is recommended to use reference management software, such as Mendeley, Endnote, or Zotero, for citation and reference organization. [Arial, 10 pt]
