Representasi Identitas dan Semangat Multikulturalisme dalam Berita di Media Online: Konflik Orang Papua di Indonesia Tahun 2019-2025

Abstract
Conflicts triggered by ethnic and racial differences continue to occur in Indonesia. Between 2019 and 2025, several conflicts emerged involving Papuan people living outside Papua and local communities. News coverage of these conflicts varies in perspective, shaping diverse public understandings of the issue. This study aims to describe the various media perspectives in reporting on the Papuan conflict and to analyze the issue from a multicultural communication viewpoint. The research employs an interpretive qualitative method. Data consist of 11 online news reports from seven media outlets published between 2019 and 2025. Data analysis was conducted using the Bogdan and Taylor model, supported by source and theoretical triangulation to ensure the consistency of findings across media and their relevance to the context of multicultural communication. The results reveal three media perspectives in reporting the conflict between Papuan people and local communities: (1) media representing Papuan identity negatively, (2) neutral media allowing readers to interpret the issue independently, and (3) media portraying Papuans as passive actors. The study concludes that the spirit of multiculturalism has weakened, as media discourse tends to neglect respect for cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity.
