EFFORTS TO OVERCOME THE CRIME OF ONLINE GAMBLING SUKOHARJO POLICE CASE STUDY

Abstract

In general, efforts to deal with online gambling crimes are carried out preventif and represif. Data from the Sukoharjo Police, from 2017 to 2023, 35 cases of online or conventional gambling have been handled. Most of the people who do gambling are teenagers. Online gamblers use information and communication technology as a means of modern gambling.
This research aims to determine the efforts taken by the Sukoharjo Police to tackle online gambling in the jurisdiction of the Sukoharjo Police. Research data consists of primary data and secondary data. In collecting data, the author used the interview method from the Sukoharjo Police Specific Crime Unit. Meanwhile, in the analysis the author uses qualitative analysis methods.
Based on the results of research conducted by the author, it can be concluded that the efforts made by the Sukoharjo Police in tackling online gambling are by using preventive measures (prevention) and repressive measures (enforcement). The Sukoharjo Polres prioritizes preventive efforts, namely by conducting patrols and outreach to the community. As for the inhibiting factors, namely the lack of mastery of information technology by investigators in uncovering perpetrators, information leaks before carrying out raids, lack of facilities and infrastructure in uncovering and lack of public awareness to report to the Police.
