Antibacterial Activity of Ethanolic Extract Siwak Stem (Salvadora persica) Against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923

Infeksi dapat disebabkan oleh bakteri dan salah satunya adalah Staphylococcus aureus. Pengobatan infeksi dapat menggunakan tumbuhan alami seperti tanaman Siwak (Salvadora persica). Batang tanaman Siwak (Salvadora persica) mengandung Saponin, Alkaloid, Tanin, dan Fenol. Penelitian ini untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri batang Salvadora persica terhadap pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Metode ekstraksi menggunakan maserasi dengan pelarut adalah etanol. Golongan senyawa ekstrak diidentifikasi menggunakan berbagai pereaksi kimia. Ekstrak batang Salvadora persica dibuat dengan variasi konsentrasi 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, dan 50% dengan menggunakan pengencer dimetil sulfoksida 2% (DMSO). Klorheksidin 0,2% sebagai kontrol positif, dan DMSO 2% sebagai kontrol negatif. Uji aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode difusi. Analisis data menggunakan statistika yaitu dengan uji ANOVA. Hasil ekstrak etanol batang siwak mengandung golongan senyawa: saponin, alkaloid, tanin, dan fenol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak batang Salvadora persica memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Uji aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dari kultur laboratorium menunjukkan rata-rata diameter zona hambat terbesar pada konsentrasi 50% dengan diameter 20,5 mm dan zona hambat terkecil pada konsentrasi 6,5 mm. Konsentrasi 25% dengan diameter 14 mm.
