HEXAGON: Jurnal Ilmu dan Pendidikan Matematika is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated primarily to advancing research, theory, and innovation in mathematics education, while also providing a forum for selected studies in mathematics and applied mathematics. The journal publishes original research and scholarly works that contribute to the development of knowledge and practice in mathematics teaching and learning across educational levels and diverse contexts.

HEXAGON emphasizes studies that deepen the understanding of mathematical teaching and learning processes, mathematical thinking and competencies, innovative pedagogy, educational technology, assessment, affective dimensions of mathematics learning, mathematics teacher education, and culturally responsive and inclusive practices. The journal also welcomes research on mathematics and applied mathematics that demonstrates clear theoretical, methodological, or practical contributions through mathematical modelling, statistical analysis, computational methods, and applications of mathematics to real-world problems.

Scope

HEXAGON welcomes original research articles, systematic and critical reviews, theoretical and conceptual studies, development studies, and other scholarly works that make a substantive contribution to mathematics education, mathematics, or applied mathematics. The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to:

1. Mathematics Teaching and Learning

Teaching approaches, instructional strategies, learning models, learning trajectories, classroom practices, instructional materials, mathematical understanding, problem solving, reasoning, communication, and representation.

2. Mathematical Thinking, Literacy, and Learning Difficulties

Mathematical literacy, numeracy, critical and creative thinking, higher-order thinking, computational thinking, conceptual understanding, misconceptions, mathematical errors, dyscalculia, and other difficulties in learning mathematics.

3. Technology and Innovation in Mathematics Education

Digital learning, educational technology, artificial intelligence, mathematics software, interactive media, digital games, online and blended learning, and technology-enhanced mathematics instruction.

4. Assessment and Affective Dimensions in Mathematics Education

Formative, summative, diagnostic, and authentic assessment; development and validation of assessment instruments; mathematics anxiety; self-efficacy; motivation; attitudes toward mathematics; engagement; and other psychological factors related to mathematics learning.

5. Mathematics Teacher Education, Culture, and Inclusive Practices

Pre-service and in-service mathematics teacher education, pedagogical content knowledge, teacher competence, professional development, reflective practice, ethnomathematics, culturally responsive mathematics education, equity, and inclusive mathematics education.

6. STEM, Mathematical Modelling, and Interdisciplinary Mathematics Education

STEM/STEAM integration, mathematical modelling in educational contexts, computational thinking, interdisciplinary problem solving, and applications connecting mathematics learning with real-world contexts.

7. Mathematics and Applied Mathematics

Mathematical modelling, statistics and data analysis, optimization, numerical methods, discrete mathematics, forecasting, and applications of mathematical methods to scientific, environmental, social, economic, and other real-world problems.

Note: Manuscripts addressing general education topics without a substantive connection to mathematics, mathematics education, or the application of mathematical methods fall outside the scope of HEXAGON.
