Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to HEXAGON: Jurnal Ilmu dan Pendidikan Matematika undergo an editorial screening and peer-review process to ensure their relevance, originality, methodological quality, and contribution to the fields covered by the journal.

Initial Editorial Screening

Each submitted manuscript is initially screened by the editorial team. At this stage, the manuscript is evaluated for its conformity with the journal's Focus and Scope, Author Guidelines, scholarly merit, originality, and basic methodological quality. Manuscripts that fall outside the journal's scope, do not comply with the submission requirements, or contain major methodological deficiencies may be rejected before being sent for external peer review.

All submitted manuscripts are also subject to similarity screening using Turnitin. The overall similarity index must not exceed 20%. Manuscripts with a similarity index above this threshold may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected, depending on the nature and extent of the identified overlap.

A similarity score is not interpreted as evidence of plagiarism by itself. The editorial team will assess the similarity report to identify inappropriate textual overlap, improper citation, unattributed use of sources, or other potential violations of publication ethics. Any suspected plagiarism or unethical publication practice will be handled in accordance with HEXAGON's Screening Plagiarism and Publication Ethics policies.

Peer Review

Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial editorial screening will be sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area. HEXAGON applies a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of the authors and reviewers are concealed from each other during the review process.

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on their originality, scholarly contribution, relevance to the journal's scope, theoretical foundation, methodological rigor, quality of analysis and discussion, clarity of presentation, and overall academic quality. Reviewers are expected to provide constructive comments and recommendations to assist both the authors and editors in improving and evaluating the manuscript.

Reviewers' comments and recommendations are communicated to the corresponding author for revision and response when necessary. Authors are expected to address the reviewers' comments carefully and provide a clear response to the revisions requested.

Editorial Decision

The reviewers provide recommendations to the editors; however, the final decision regarding publication is made by the editorial team. The editors consider the reviewers' reports, the authors' responses and revisions, the scholarly quality of the manuscript, and its suitability for HEXAGON when making the final decision.

The peer-review and editorial decision process normally takes approximately 4–8 weeks. The actual processing time may vary depending on reviewer availability, the complexity of the manuscript, and the extent of revisions required.

Review Outcomes

Based on the peer-review reports and editorial evaluation, a manuscript may receive one of the following decisions:

1. Reject

The manuscript is considered unsuitable for publication in HEXAGON due to substantial concerns regarding its scope, originality, scholarly contribution, methodology, or overall quality. A rejected manuscript is considered closed and will not proceed further in the editorial process.

2. Resubmit for Review

The manuscript has potential for publication but requires substantial revision. Authors are invited to revise the manuscript thoroughly in response to the reviewers' and editors' comments. The revised manuscript will normally undergo another round of peer review before a further editorial decision is made.

3. Accept with Revisions

The manuscript is considered suitable for publication provided that the authors satisfactorily address the required revisions. Depending on the nature of the revisions, the revised manuscript may be evaluated by the handling editor and, when necessary, returned to the reviewers for further assessment.

4. Accept

The manuscript is accepted for publication without requiring substantive further revision. Minor editorial, language, formatting, copyediting, or layout adjustments may still be made during the production process.

Revision Process

When revision is required, the reviewers' and editors' comments will be communicated to the corresponding author through the journal's online submission system. Authors should submit a revised manuscript together with a response explaining how each comment has been addressed.

Authors are normally expected to submit their revised manuscript within a maximum of four weeks. If additional time is required, the corresponding author should contact the editorial team before the revision deadline. Submissions that remain inactive beyond the permitted revision period may be closed or treated as new submissions at the discretion of the editors.

Correspondence

All correspondence concerning submitted manuscripts should be conducted through the journal's online submission system whenever possible. For additional editorial inquiries, authors may contact the HEXAGON Editorial Office at jurnalhexagonfkip@gmail.com.

Editorial correspondence will normally be directed to the corresponding author, who is responsible for communicating relevant information to all co-authors. Following acceptance, additional correspondence may be required during the copyediting, proofreading, and layout stages.

After Acceptance

Following final acceptance, the manuscript will proceed to the production stage, which may include language editing, copyediting, formatting, layout editing, and author proofreading. Authors may be contacted during this stage to clarify information or approve necessary editorial corrections.

The scheduling and sequence of accepted articles for publication are determined by the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team. Considerations may include the date of acceptance, thematic relevance, issue composition, and editorial planning.

Accepted manuscripts may undergo language editing to improve clarity, readability, and academic presentation while preserving the authors' intended meaning and scholarly content. Language editing services provided as part of the journal's current publication process are free of charge.
