Folklore plays an important role in preserving cultural identity and transmitting social values across generations through narrative and symbolism. Although many studies have examined folklore as a cultural artifact and discussed symbolism in general, limited attention has been given to how connotative meaning specifically functions as the primary medium for conveying cultural values within folk narratives. This gap indicates the need for a focused analysis that connects semantic interpretation with cultural meaning. Therefore, this study aims to analyze how connotative meaning constructs and communicates cultural values in the folklore of Robin Hood. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using textual analysis, with data collected through documentation of the folklore text and related scholarly sources. The analysis involves identifying symbolic elements, interpreting their connotative meanings, and relating them to the cultural values embedded in the narrative. The findings reveal that connotative meaning plays a central role in conveying values such as justice, social equality, compassion, loyalty, and respect for nature, which are communicated indirectly through symbolic characters, settings, and events. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that connotation is a key mechanism through which folklore encodes and transmits cultural values, highlighting the significance of semantic analysis in understanding traditional narratives.
