Peer Review Process
At the Journal of Humanities and Civic Education, we follow a rigorous peer review process to ensure the quality, integrity, and reliability of our published articles. The review process takes approximately 3-4 weeks. Our peer review process involves the following steps:
1. Initial Editorial Assessment
Upon submission, the editorial team performs an initial assessment to ensure that the manuscript aligns with the scope and focus of the journal. They evaluate whether the manuscript meets the basic formatting and ethical guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be returned to the authors without further review.
2. Assignment of Reviewers
Once a manuscript passes the initial assessment, it is assigned to expert reviewers with relevant expertise in the field. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise, experience, and absence of any conflicts of interest with the authors.
3. Double-Blind Review
We typically follow a double-blind review process. The identities of both the reviewers and authors are kept confidential.
4. Reviewer Evaluation
Reviewers thoroughly evaluate the manuscript, considering factors such as the novelty, significance, methodology, data analysis, and interpretation of results. They provide constructive feedback, suggestions for improvement, and recommendations regarding the manuscript's suitability for publication.
5. Editor's Decision
Based on the reviewers' comments, the editor decides the manuscript. The possible decisions include acceptance, minor revisions, major revisions, or rejection. The editor's decision is communicated to the authors along with the reviewers' comments, allowing them to address the feedback and revise their manuscript accordingly.
6. Revision and Resubmission
If revisions are requested, authors are given a specific timeframe to address the reviewers' comments and make the necessary revisions. Upon resubmission, the revised manuscript is often reevaluated by the original reviewers to ensure that the required changes have been adequately addressed.
7. Final Decision
After the revised manuscript is received, the editor re-evaluates it along with the reviewers' comments to make a final decision. The decision can be acceptance, further revision, or rejection. The time required for an article from acceptance to final decision takes 8-12 weeks.
8. Publication
Once a manuscript is accepted, it undergoes final formatting and copyediting to ensure adherence to journal guidelines. The article is then published online in our open-access journal, making it freely available to the research community and the public.
