ETHNOPEDAGOGY-BASED GAME LEARNING MEDIA FOR STRENGTHENING SOCIAL TOLERANCE IN ELEMENTARY PANCASILA EDUCATION
Abstract
This study was motivated by the limited use of culturally responsive instructional media in elementary Pancasila Education, which is still dominated by textual approaches and considered less effective in fostering students’ social tolerance. This study aimed to develop an ethnopedagogy-based educational game called “Papan Garudaku” to strengthen social tolerance among elementary school students. The media integrates ethnopedagogical values, Pancasila principles, and game-based experiential learning into interactive and contextual learning activities. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach by adapting the Borg and Gall, Dick and Carey, and Rowntree models. The participants consisted of 98 fifth-grade students from two elementary schools in Bekasi Regency. Data were collected through observations, questionnaires, interviews, tests, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired sample t-test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed very high feasibility scores, with expert validation results of 95%, 86.5%, and 97.5%. The media was also effective in improving students’ social tolerance, with an N-Gain score of 0.81 categorized as high. The novelty of this study lies in transforming ethnopedagogy into an operational and measurable game-based instructional media aligned with the Pancasila curriculum.
