Author Guidelines

MAIN PRINCIPLES
Articles accepted must meet the following requirements (1) are the results of their own research (2) using good and accountable research methods or (3) are literature studies with appropriate research method.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
The general guidelines of article writing in Food Scientia are:
Scientific articles submitted are the results of their own research and have never been published in other publication media which are stated in the "Author's Statement"

  1. Does not contain any elements of plagiarism (max. 20% similarity).
  2. Articles are written in Microsoft word (.doc) with A4 size paper (210 x297 mm), with top, bottom, and right margins of 3 cm and left margin of 3.5 cm.
  3. Articles are written in Indonesian and English as many as 2000-6000 words using Times New Roman (TNR) 12, 1.5 spacing (see body text guidelines for details).
  4. Articles in the form of research results in the laboratory or on the field are written containing several aspects consisting of: title, abstract and keywords (Indonesian and English), introduction, research methods, results and discussion, conclusion, and bibliography.
  5. Articles in the form of literature studies are written containing several aspects of the title, abstract and keywords (Indonesian and English), introduction and sections with brief sub-headings.
  6. Words from a foreign or foreign language are expressed in Italic format. Abbreviations must follow the International System (SI) symbols and those recommended by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). Abbreviations must be defined in parentheses after their first mention in the text. The unit of measurement must also follow the applicable International System. Standard units of measurement and chemical symbols of elements can be used without definition
  7. References must use APA styling 6.
  8. We suggest authors to use citation manager such as Mendeley, Zotero or EndNote.
  9. Editors have the right to modify manuscript without altering its content. They also have the right to refuse manuscript that is considered to have not fulfilled the required criteria.

 

BODY TEXT GUIDELINES

  2. the use of reference manager, such as Mendeley, Zotero and EndNote are highly recommended. 

Title
Title must be written in a clear and concise manner as well as not give rise to any other interpretations. The title have to be written in Indonesian and English. The English text is written in italic. The title should be written in accordance with each language writing rules. The title must be less than 20 words. For Indonesian title, it must be written using Times New Roman with all uppercase fonts, Font size 14, bold, 1.5 spacing and centered. For English title, it must be it must be written using Times New Roman, Font size 14, bold, italicized, 1.5 spacing and centered.

Authors name and affiliations
All authors' names must be written in full, followed by affiliation, address, city, post code and country. Affiliations of authors must be indicated using superscript numbering system (ex. John smith1). E-mail address from corresponding authors must also be attached. The name(s) and other information are written using Times New Roman, Font size 11, 1.15 spacing and centered. The names must be put in bold.

Abstracts and Keywords
Abstracts and keywords are written in Indonesian and English after the authors' information. Abstract is written in both languages with the word count of from 150 to 200 words. Abstract is written in one paragraph without any header as well as not inserting references, uncommon acronyms (if important to the article, the full text must be clearly defined). Abstract must contain at least the aim, method and result. Abstract is written using New Roman, Font size 11, 1.15 spacing and justified. English abstract should be italicized.

Keywords should clearly give information about the content of the article. author must avoid using generic and ambiguous words.  Keywords will be used for indexing purposes. Author must give 3 to 5 keywords per article.

Introduction
Introduction must contain the background of the article regarding the general and unique information of the studied subject backed by proper literature, The article's aim, as well as the hypothesis of the research. Introduction must explain the novelty and interest of the studied subject. Introduction is written using Times New Roman, Font size 12, bold, 1.5 spacing and justified.

Research Methods
All methods used must be written in this section. The method should be written using several sub-headings such as time and place of research, materials and equipment, research and experiment design, and any other relevant information. Method must be written in a concise and clear manner. This part must be able to explain to the reader about the method used during the research. Method is written using Times New Roman, Font size 12, bold, 1.5 spacing and justified.

Result and Discussion
Result and discussion must be written in this section. They may be written as one or as individual sub-sections. The sub-sections are to the authors discretion, and they should be concise, clear, and informative. The result must be presented in order and continuous to present the result clearly. It also must be supported by clear data and proper discussion. For Literature review article, it must be able to describe new development and significance of the finding. It must pay attention and answer questions being asked in the subject or discipline. Result and discussion are written using Times New Roman, Font size 12, bold, 1.5 spacing and justified.

Table
Table must be given a title and a numbering system within the proper writing rules. Table must not contain vertical lines and only horizontal lines. Table must attach references, if any, under the table. Table must be able to be edited for copyediting purposes (no pictures).  table is written using Times New Roman, Font size 12, bold, 1 spacing and autofitted to window. Picture and Graph
Picture and graph must be clear and with good resolution. Any text, graph and lines must be clear and readable. They must be given a title and a numbering system within the proper writing rules. Graph with data must attach the data in supplementary files. Graph must be placed on the center. Source of pictures or graph must be clearly stated in the title. Conclusion
Conclusion must clearly state the finding and the discussion about it. It has to be able to answer the proposed hypothesis and clearly explain the connection between the research and the questions being asked. Conclusion should not be a repetition of discussion. Rather, it should be a concise summary of the result and discussion. Author should also give advice and suggestion about further research and experiments. Conclusion is written using Times New Roman, Font size 12, bold, 1.5 spacing and justified.

References
All Reference must used must be included in this section. Food Scientia uses APA 6 format and must be alphabetically categorized. Each article must at least have 10 references and 80% of the source coming from articles of national and international journals. The references should be published from the previous 10 years of article submission date. Reference is written using Times New Roman, Font size 12, bold, 1.5 spacing and justified. it is highly suggested that author uses a reference manager such as Mendeley, Zotero, and EndNote to simplify the referencing process.
