Abstrak

Sargassum sp. adalah salah satu jenis rumput laut yang banyak terdapat di Indonesia. Analisis kimia dan studi eksperimen telah menunjukkan potensi Sargassum sp. sebagai nutrasetikal, dengan temuan berbagai senyawa bioaktif yang memiliki manfaat kesehatan. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk merangkum literatur yang ada mengenai Sargassum sp., yang ditinjau dari kandungan senyawa bioaktif dan komposisi kimia serta efeknya terhadap kesehatan.  Berdasarkan hasil penelusuran literatur, ditemukan bahwa Sargassum sp. memiliki senyawa bioaktif, seperti fukoidan, laminarin, alginat, fukosterol, phlorotanin, sargachromenol, dan fukosantin. Senyawa-senyawa ini memiliki fungsi sebagai antioksidan, antiinflamasi, antidiabetik, antiobesitas, antimikroba, immunomodulator, sitoprotektan, gastroprotektan, dan neuroprotektan. Oleh karena itu, Sargassum sp. berpotensi untuk dikembangkan lebih lanjut sebagai nutraseutikal.
