AI Detection Policy

As part of its commitment to scientific integrity, IJDMDE employs Turnitin AI Detection as a standard component of the initial desk review process. All submitted manuscripts are screened for AI-generated content prior to being forwarded for peer review. AI detection results are used solely to verify the consistency between the manuscript's content and the AI use disclosure statement submitted by the author(s), as required under IJDMDE's Generative AI Policy.

Detection Thresholds and Editorial Actions

Unlike plagiarism detection, IJDMDE does not impose a fixed percentage threshold for AI-generated content. This approach is consistent with international standards set by Elsevier, Springer Nature, and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), which recognize that AI detection tools are not yet sufficiently accurate to serve as a sole basis for rejection. Instead, editorial decisions are based on the following framework:

  1. Low AI indicator (0–20%): The manuscript is considered acceptable in terms of AI use. The editor will verify that the author's disclosure statement is consistent with the detected level of AI assistance. If no AI tools were used, the negative declaration must be present.
  2. Moderate AI indicator (21–50%): The manuscript will be flagged for further editorial review. The corresponding author will be contacted to provide a detailed explanation and a comprehensive AI use disclosure statement. The editor will assess whether the detected AI use is consistent with permitted uses as outlined in IJDMDE's Generative AI Policy. If the explanation is satisfactory and the disclosure is adequate, the manuscript may proceed to peer review.
  3. High AI indicator (above 50%): The manuscript will be subject to heightened scrutiny. If the editorial review concludes that the manuscript contains substantial AI-generated content without meaningful intellectual contribution from the human authors, or that the AI use has not been properly disclosed, the manuscript will be rejected without further review.

Important Clarification

AI detection scores alone do not constitute grounds for automatic rejection. The editorial decision will always involve human judgment and a holistic assessment of the manuscript, including the adequacy of the AI use disclosure, the consistency between declared and detected AI use, and the overall scientific quality and originality of the work. Authors who transparently disclose their use of AI tools and demonstrate meaningful intellectual contribution will not be penalized solely on the basis of AI detection scores.

Limitations of AI Detection

IJDMDE acknowledges that AI detection tools are not infallible. Text written entirely by humans may occasionally be flagged as AI-generated, and conversely, AI-generated content may not always be detected. For this reason, AI detection results are treated as one component of a broader editorial integrity assessment, and are never used as the sole determinant of an editorial decision.

Consistency with Generative AI Policy

This AI Detection Policy is to be read in conjunction with IJDMDE's Generative AI Policy. Any inconsistency between the AI detection results and the author's disclosure statement will be treated as a potential violation of the Generative AI Policy and handled in accordance with the consequences outlined therein.
